What does Pelvic Health look like for a Transgender or Gender Non Conforming Patient?

Welcome to Physio HQ, thank you for taking the time to read this. Pelvic health can become problematic for many reasons, whether it’s related to gender expression, such as tucking, gender affirmation surgery as well as many other reasons. My name is Alex, my pronouns are she/her and I am the Certified Pelvic Health Therapist at Physio HQ.

While I can never fully understand your experience, I will always try my best to educate myself and empathise with you. However, I know that there is a high likelihood that you have faced discrimination, in day-to-day life and in healthcare. My goal is to make you feel as comfortable and as welcome as possible when working together.

The gold standard for assessment is an internal examination, and as I tell all my patients although it is recommended, we don’t have to do it during your first session, and you may decide to complete treatment without ever getting one. It is also important to note I am qualified to perform both vaginal and rectal exams, we can discuss which one would be the best option for you if you choose to complete one.

I offer a safe, non-judgemental space and a caring ear to listen your issues. I am passionate about making pelvic health inclusive for everyone, and finding new ways to support people as new scientific evidence becomes available. If you have any questions or you would like more information, please contact me at alex@physiohq.co.nz. I look forward to working with you through the next stage of your journey.
